Former ECI Telecom CEO David Rubner Named NovelSat Chairman

Gilat Satcom Adopts Novelsat NS3 to Increase Capacity on its Direct Satellite Route between Africa and The United States

18 November 2014 Gilat Satcom today announced that it is now using Novelsat NS3 to increase capacity from its newly launched POP in Maryland on the east coast of the USA.

The new POP was established to answer Africa’s growing demand for international broadband connectivity.

NovelSat NS3 is a high-end efficiency satellite transmission software package that runs on the NovelSat NS3000 satellite modems in the POP. NovelSat NS3 typically increases spectral efficiency by up to 30% compared with the DVB-S2 satellite industry standard. This enables the Africa-US satellite link to carry more data.

Application of NovelSat Technology on AFRICASAT-1a Generates Significant Cost Savings

Kuala Lumpur, xx November 2014: MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. (“MEASAT”) announced today that customers on the AFRICASAT-1a satellite will now be able to benefit from additional cost savings given the successful test of 64APSK modulation on the satellite’s high-powered pan-African beam.

The tests were conducted with the NovelSat NS3000 Professional High-Data Rate Satellite Modem running NovelSat NS3 technology.

The use of NovelSat NS3 technology on the Africasat-1a satellite enabled an increase in spectral efficiency levels by between 20% and 50%. Higher spectral efficiency allows more bits per Hertz, leading to higher bandwidth thus reducing costs. The key application areas that will benefit are multiplexed IP trunking and voice backhauls for mobile operators and point-to-point IP transit for Internet Service Providers.

NovelSat Wins Coveted Satellite Industry Award, Signs Deals for New Products at IBC in Amsterdam

Winning a prestigious CSI Award, booking orders for their new NS300 modem and dozens of successful meetings with industry executives were all part of the good news coming from NovelSat.

Last week, at a ceremony at the RAI Amsterdam during the IBC 2014 show, NovelSat won the CSI Award for Best Satellite Contribution/Distribution/Transmission Solution. The award recognized the value of their NovelSat FreeBand solution that gives DSNG and other remote satellite users free satellite bandwidth for contribution using their existing distribution bandwidth.

While overtaking the satellite industry competition at the awards ceremony, NovelSat also introduced their new NovelSat NS300 Professional Satellite Modem at IBC. The NS300 was designed for cost-effective data transmission applications requiring up to 30Mbps. In addition to generating a lot of interest, the company has already received orders for the new NS300.

Successful Customer Trial of NovelSat FreeBand Solution for Free Satellite Video Contribution

Ra’anana, Israel, August 12, 2014 – NovelSat, a world leader in satellite transmission technology, today announced a successful field trial of their NovelSat FreeBand solution on Hope Channel’s network. NovelSat FreeBand makes it possible for broadcasters to access free satellite bandwidth for their remote contribution units.

By reusing the existing satellite bandwidth in their distribution network, broadcasters, in essence, get a free return transmission of video and data from their remote news gathering units. As satellite bandwidth becomes scarcer and more expensive, this solution becomes very attractive to broadcasters who also deploy remote contribution units.

The Hope Channel is the international broadcasting unit of the Seventh Day Adventist Church providing programs on holistic Christian living focusing on faith, health, relationships, and community. They broadcast 23 channels on four continents. The trial was implemented at the Rede Novo Tempo de Comunicação broadcast center in Brazil. During the trial, using the broadcaster’s DVB-S distribution bandwidth, NovelSat FreeBand provided up to 56% extra bandwidth for a new contribution channel.

Raanana, Israel, July 14, 2014 – Starting last week, the EBU treated 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ fans to 4K resolution – a new, breathtaking way to enjoy televised sports. Using NovelSat satellite modulators, The EBU broadcast 3 full live World Cup games from Brazil in 4K Ultra HD quality, including the Final yesterday between Germany and Argentina. These 4K satellite broadcasts set a new standard for internationally televised football both in quality and cost effectiveness.

Worldwide, the growing demand for 4K Ultra HD TV is driven by live sporting events where increased clarity and frame rate create a smoother, more realistic experience and instant replay with game changing sharpness. While 4K is a pleasure to view, the increased pixel count (3480×2160 vs. 1920 x 1080 for 1080p) can tax satellite bandwidth. In addition to reducing the cost of delivering HD and 4K broadcast video by satellite, NovelSat NS3 technology goes further to improve signal quality through superior resilience to channel impairments such as phase noise, non-linearity, jamming and interference and other factors.

New Low-cost Multi-Camera Solution for Mobile Satellite Broadcasting

New solution lets broadcasters and DSNG operators contribute HD video from multiple cameras using a single satellite modem, without leasing additional bandwidth

Raanana, Israel, June 10, 2014 NovelSat, a world leader in satellite transmission technologies, today announced a new solution that enables Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) units to deploy multiple cameras using a single satellite modem without the need for additional bandwidth for each camera.

Events that call for multiple live camera feeds can require additional DSNG equipment and satellite bandwidth to support each individual camera. This adds significant cost to DSNG event coverage. The new NovelSat multi-camera solution, however, enables multiple, concurrent live HD video feeds on a single modem, using a single satellite carrier.

This capability can significantly reduce the cost of contributing multiple video streams via satellite, even for the smallest flyaway unit. It also open up new revenue opportunities for smaller DSNG service providers.

The NovelSat NS3000 Satellite Modem, together with NovelSat DUET bandwidth reuse technology can provide bi-directional HD video and IP data traffic simultaneously on a single carrier. A single modem can support up to 850Mbps of satellite traffic in full duplexed transmission. Adding NovelSat NS3

transmission technology to the mix typically boosts bitrate per MHz by 40% to 60% – that’s the satellite industry’s most cost-effective use of satellite bandwidth.

A DSNG or flyaway operator covering an event that requires multiple cameras, such as a live interview or sporting event, can transmit video from multiple cameras by streaming video IP data alongside an HD video broadcast stream, all using the same satellite bandwidth at no additional cost.

‘Slave’ cameras can be connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi at the remote site and can be controlled from the studio control room. In fact, any camera can be used, from broadcast quality to consumer video cameras and even smartphones.
