3 December, 2013 – Global demand for satellite bandwidth continues to increase. One indicator of this trend comes from NovelSat, developer of NS3™ next-generation satellite transmission technology and leading satellite communications equipment vendor, who recently signed their 100th customer.

The increase in demand for satellite bandwidth comes from various sources including a call for more high-end video, increased military use of commercial satellites, high-speed Internet data consumption and the expanding communications needs of maritime, oil and gas industries and developing countries.

These trends are reflected in the types of customers that NovelSat has been signing throughout the past two years. Among NovelSat customers are major international broadcasters, cellular networks, data communications providers, news gathering companies and military agencies. In addition to demand from developing nations who do not have a mature fiber infrastructure, NovelSat satellite transmission equipment is now deployed at over 3,000 sites in 110 countries around the globe.

The European Broadcasting Union plans to upgrade its European satellite network with third generation NovelSat NS3 transmission technology

Geneva 6 November, 2013 – Following the successful global satellite broadcast of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Euro-Cup 2012, NBA, Formula One and other major events, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), operator of the world’s largest satellite and fiber live video network, has decided to upgrade its European satellite network with modulating equipment based on NovelSat advanced NS3™ third generation satellite technology. This upgrade will effectively make the EBU satellite network the fastest, most advanced and robust in the world.

The EBU is the world’s foremost alliance of public service media organizations and operates EUROVISION, the media industry’s premier distributor and producer of high-end live sport and news, as well as entertainment, culture and music content.

This deal will see the EBU upgrading a significant part of its vast European satellite network to NS1000 and NS2000 Satellite Modulators and Demodulators powered by NovelSat NS3 technology.

With increasing demand for more HD channels, high-end video and Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV) on the horizon, satellite bandwidth demand is outstripping supply for certain specific footprints. This shortage has been driving up satellite transmission costs while limiting availability, thereby forcing leading broadcasters to search for innovative solutions to address this critical business challenge.

NovelSat NS3 technology has been proven to utilize available spectrum much more effectively than solutions based on industry standard technology. Major US broadcaster selects NovelSat to Upgrade Satellite Communications in Mobile News Fleet

NovelSat NS3000 Modems with NS3 technology to improve DSNG satellite bandwidth efficiency by nearly 50%

16 October, 2013 – Satellite communications equipment vendor NovelSat, developers of NS3™ next-generation technology, announced today that a major US broadcaster has selected NovelSat to upgrade the satellite communication technology in their global DSNG (Digital Satellite News Gathering) fleet. They will deploy NovelSat NS3000 satellite modems in all flyaway portable production facilities for video contribution and IP communication.

This top broadcasting company chose to replace existing equipment with modems from NovelSat, which incorporate NS3 technology, to reduce the cost of satellite communications by dropping bandwidth consumption by 47% compared to their existing system.

Customer testing showed that under identical conditions the NovelSat NS3 protocol achieved a data transmission rate of 14.72 Mb/s compared to industry standard DVB-S2 at 10.05Mb/s and the DVB-S rate of 5.37 Mb/s.

NovelSat NS3000 modems deliver HD video over standard-definition infrastructure, can simultaneous stream video and data over a single carrier and make it possible to use antennas that are 35% smaller. Simultaneous IP data communication together with video transmission makes it possible for broadcasters to operate advanced IP based services, including dial tone, Internet services and connectivity to corporate data networking services. One way broadcasters benefit from this is by being able to operate an overseas DSNG, remotely via satellite, from the home studio without deploying a trained technician in the field.

Amsterdam 12 September, 2013 – Las Vegas Nevada-based PSSI Global, a leading provider of global transmission and satellite services, and Hamilton Teleport operator Juch-Tech (Ontario, CN) teamed with NovelSat in recent live trials to achieve a bidirectional satellite communication transfer rate of 180Mbps. Using NovelSat NS3™ and DUET™ technologies, PSSI was able to far exceed current industry standard performance. By moving broadcast data through satellites more rapidly, NovelSat NS3 helps broadcasters to significantly reduce transmission costs and expand the utilization of available satellite bandwidth.

The trials were conducted over a two day period using the Juch-Tech 9.1m antenna in Hamilton, Ontario and the PSSI Satellite News Gathering (SNG) 3.8m antenna in Las Vegas. Transmissions included HD video and IP data with TCP acceleration/compression. The NovelSat NS3000 modem, which incorporates NovelSat NS3 and Duet technologies, was used during the live trial.

In extreme weather conditions, NS3 further proves its value, boosting network reliability and availability more effectively, and efficiently handling different channel impairments such as phase noise, non-linearity, jamming and interference.

In addition, the success of the PSSI live-demonstration relied on NovelSat DUET, powerful software-based echo cancellation technology. NovelSat DUET doubles data transmission rates over existing bandwidth by removing signal interference from the transmission. NovelSat DUET also processes signals digitally in both directions, without the need to convert signals back and forth between analog and digital. This simplifies the solution’s complexity, enhances signal efficiency, and contributes to cost reduction. Unlike other solutions, NovelSat DUET achieves all this without the need for additional hardware, which further reduces capital and operating costs.
